Abhijeet Gupta maintains lead in National Junior Chess Championship

Abhijeet Gupta continued his winning streak by beating Karataka's T Purushothaman in the 8th round of 35th National Junior Chess Championship on Monday. This victory helped Grandmaster
norm holder and top-seed Abhijeet to retain his full point lead over his nearest challenger - Aswin Jayaram of Tamil Nadu. Abhijeet took his tally to a score of 7.5 while Aswin managed to get 6.5. To emerge as the clear winner of this chess championship, Abhijeet now needs to draw in the last two rounds. Abhijeet and Aswin are followed in the game by a pack of eight players including second seed G Rohit, Woman GM D Harika and former champion GN Gopal.
The 35th National Junior Chess Championship is underway at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra in New Delhi, India. As many as 195 participants from across the country are participating in this boys and girls' chess championship.
