Katerina Lahno wins IV Women Chess Supertournament
08.08.06: Katerina Lahno of Ukrain has won the IV Women Chess Supertournament or North Urals Cup 2006. Antoanetta Stefanova (Bulgaria), world champion of 2004 , Maya Chiburdanidze (Georgia), 5 time world champion , Tatiana Kosintseva (Russia), Russian women`s champion of 2004 and many other prominent chess players were contending for the round robin title. For the fourth consecutive time, North Urals Cup - the biggest women's chess tournament, was being held in Krasnoturinsk – a city in central Russia. The tournament took place at the stage of Bogoslovsky aluminium smelter's Arts Palace within the period of July 22 to August 1. The prize fund was USD 10,000. The tournament was organized by Bogoslovsky aluminium smelter (Director General – Sibagatulla Aminov) and patronized by Sverdlovsk region`s Governor Edward Rossel. The tournament was initiated by FIDE Vice-president and Honorary President of the Russian Chess Federation Andrey Selivanov and by the President of the Sverdlovsk Chess Federation Anatoly Sysoev.
